Orderable Test Description
This test uses immunohistochemistry (IHC) to stain for ALK1 (ALK1 cline). ALK1 identifies normal human ALK protein expression and the NPM-ALK chimeric protein and is a useful tool for the identification of a subgroup of anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) that are ALK positive.

Clinical Significance
ALK-1 is a membrane spanning tyrosine kinase receptor and member of insulin receptor family. ALK-1 overexpression occurs as a result of translocations, mutations and amplifications. Tumors with ALK-1 translocations are sensitive to ALK-1 inhibitors.
Storage and transportation
Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen. Slides can be packed at room temperature. NYS clients please provide date and time of collection.
